About Our Bi-folding Doors

Folding door opens to reveal around 90% opening, many other opening styles are available. Our aluminium bi-folding doors smoothly glide open - creating extra room for entertaining and bringing the outside in. Unlike ordinary patio doors or French doors, a bi-fold folding door gives around a 90% clear opening. We are able to produce these doors in many different configurations so that the panels can slide and fold away to an unused part of your garden or room - such as a party wall or fence. Our folding doors can open into the room or out into the garden - thereby fitting into your individual requirements. Depending on the width of your opening our bifolds come with between 2 and 6 panels, with each folding panel being up to 1 metre in width.

Custom folding doors in brown. The Duration bifold doors come in many different colours and finishes, from standard white and silver anodised to woodstructure effects and RAL colours. We regularly supply dual-colour bifolds where the inside and outside colours are different e.g. black outside and white inside. With so many traditional and modern finishes your folding doors can blend in with your existing buildings structure or make a modern contemporary statement.

Grey folding doors fitted to a conservatory. The Duration aluminium doors (also known as folding/sliding doors, bi-folding doors and concertina doors) can be made from 1.4 metres to 6 metres wide, and from 1.95 metres to 2.5 metres high. As a typical opening will be 2.1 metres high - our doors will comfortably fit both standard and higher-than-standard openings. With widths of up to 6 metres it is popular to remove an existing French or patio door and other windows, install an appropriate RSJ, then remove all or part of a wall - then installing one of our our bi-fold doors. Removing smaller doors and windows and replacing with a large bifold will let natural sunlight into your room, thereby improving the atmosphere of the room.

Folding doors fitted to jacuzzi area. The Duration bi-fold doors come with high performance glass to meet Document L standards, strong 3 point locking on traffic doors and optional on-glass ventilators for improved air quality. Being made from aluminium you have the flexibility of having your doors delivered already made up with glass separate, or delivered in kit form. Kit form is ideal if you don't have clear unrestricted access to the opening as the smaller individual parts are easier to handle. PVC folding doors often come in a fully welded frame which cannot be broken down meaning that larger doors can be difficult to install if there is no clear access to the opening. Our doors are very popular to our trade customers but each door comes with instructions for the keen self build or DIY enthusiast. If you would like our bi-folding doors, but would like them supplied and fitted professionally then we are able to help with supply and fit companies from our extensive database.

During the winter months you often just want to pop out into the garden without having the slide and fold any panels - this is where a traffic door comes in. Most of our aluminium bifold doors can have a traffic door, which can be a panel on it's own, or attached to the other panels. For example, a 3 pane door can be either a 2-1 split, or 3 panels all folding one way, but both types have a traffic door. On a 4 pane door you must have a 3-1 split to get a traffic door.

The Duration bifolds are primarily designed for external applications, but work very well in a room divider installation such as between the house and your conservatory. When used as a room-divider we can fit your doors with a low threshold (just 30mm high and can be partly sunk into the floor) and supply single rather than double glazing (you may of course have double glazing if you wish to reduce noise and thermal transmission between the rooms).

Finger safe gasket - standard on our bi-fold doors.Finger-safe gaskets are standard on these doors. If you or a child gets their fingers caught in the doors whilst being operated, then the gaskets help protect the fingers from being broken.

Another popular option when ordering our folding doors is to specify our special integrated blinds. These blinds are actually fitted between the 2 sheets of glass in the double glazed unit. Being inside the sealed unit they never need dusting, will not rattle in the wind and cannot be played with or damaged by children. They come in 9 different colours to complement your decor - ranging from neutral colours such as cream, white and silver through to greens and yellows. The blinds are specifically designed to be used inside glazing units and use materials that will not affect the normal operation or the life of the glass units. Operated by a manual cord, by wire free electric wand or optionally even by Bluetooth remote control, these blinds compliment our bifold doors and solve the common problem of how to give privacy yet still allow fantastic views outside. For all but the biggest folding panels the blinds can be raised and lowered and all sizes will tilt.

Our all-panels-slide patio doors are another option if you decide our bi-folds are not exactly what you require. Unlike most patio doors our all-panels-sliding patio doors do not have any fixed panels - they are all free to slide. This allows you to be flexible when arranging your furniture and on a 3 panel sliding patio door means that you have a two-thirds opening rather than a 50% opening.

Internal Use As A Room Divider

BiFold Door - Low Threshold Cill DetailAlthough primarily designed for exterior openings, our bi-fold door works very well as a room divider - just specify a low-threshold cill. The low threshold cill is just 30mm high, so will typically protrude just 15mm above a finished floor. Using the bi-fold door as a room divider gives you the maximum possible opening - as the doors fold completely against the wall. This picture shows the low threshold. The low threshold is only recommended for room divider applications. For exterior applications we recommend the standard weather proof threshold. More pictures are available in the picture gallery.

Not Just For Large Openings

2 panel Durations aluminium bi-fold folding door half open. 2 panel Durations aluminium bi-fold folding fully open. Our bi-folds are not just for large openings - they work very well with smaller openings too, making a great alternative to patio doors. 2 panel patio doors only give a 50% opening so why not fit one of our aluminium bi-folds and have a clear opening.

Please Note

We have taken every step during production to ensure these doors arrive to you in perfect condition.

Each individual set of Bi-Fold doors is manufactured and assembled then quality checked in a purpose made testing station to ensure that each door is operating perfectly before it leaves our factory. Whilst in the testing station the doors are checked by our quality control department and several photographs are taken.

These are not kits - most doors are supplied made up with glass separate, only the largest doors are broken down after manufacture and testing for ease of handling.

Important

For all Bi-Folding doors to operate correctly, it is absolutely essential that they are installed with due care and most importantly square, and level. To ensure this, the cill and outerframe must be secured and supported along its entire length.

We will ask you to sign once ordered to agree that your company or installers are aware of the importance of the preparation requirements before fitting and to confirm our manufacturing details meet the specification that you require.
