For the second time in the series, we were asked to supply and install our folding doors for Channel 4's 'The Home Show'. This was an Autumn special programme which was to renovate several key areas of a care home for the elderly. They specified a pair of our slimline Continental Folding doors which would lead out from the newly renovated and expanded living room to the garden.
Originally broadcast on 24 November 2009 @ 8:00pm, you can watch Season 2's Episode 13 on Channel 4's website on their Catch Up service (not permanently available). The Home Show website also has details on the Abbeyfield project, plus the other shows in the series.
Short of space, time, and more crucially money, our nation's retirement homes are stuck in the past. George is hoping to shake up our attitudes to architecture for the older generation, and create homes we'd be really proud to spend our last years in. In this very special edition of The Home Show, George is tackling his biggest project to date - a property that houses 12 residents, with an average age of 88 and a combined age of over 1,000 years!
The Abbeyfield charity has been taking over residential properties and turning them into communal retirement homes since the 1950s. Most of their buildings were never meant to cater for so many people, and nowhere is this issue more prevalent than at this Surrey home. In this episode we supplied and fitted two pairs of our Continental bifolding doors in the living room, the most important communal room in the house.
